Intel & Lava Mobiles joined hands to capture Smartphone market with launch of Xolo X900

New Delhi, April 20, 2012 : Intel Corporation, the world’s largest and highest valued semiconductor chip-maker is now entering the smart phones market. Intel has recently joined hands with an Indian mobile company, Lava International Ltd., to launch Xolo X900, world’s first Android phone powered by Intel processor. Lava, well-known for its budget phones, with this launch on Thursday, entered the premium segment. The partnership between Intel and Lava was announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.

With launch of Xolo X900, Intel is virtually challenging ARM Holdings, a British firm that makes technology, powering almost all the smart phone & tablets across the world. “The boundaries of personal computing are expanding. Xolo X900 showcases rich capabilities of Intel computing and highlights possibilities of what’s still to come,” said, Intel’s Corporate VP, Mike Bell.
The XOLO X900 is sleek phone with a 4.03-inch high-resolution LCD touch screen for crisp text and vibrant images. It has 8-megapixel camera with a burst mode that’s capable of capturing 10 images per second. The phone has a resolution of 1024 X 600, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 400 MHz graphics clock and the full 1080p HD video encoding and playback which makes it a perfect entertainment device, providing users with an immersive gaming and video experience. Its battery backup is of 5 hours of 3G browsing, 45 hours of audio and 8 hours of talk time, which is remarkable for an Android phone.
Initially, the X900 will run on Android Gingerbread, with a planned over-the -air software upgrade to Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich platform shortly thereafter. Xolo X900 is an advanced & highly sophisticated smart phone, which are entirely based on Intel’s reference design and features Atom processor (Z2460) running at 1.6Ghz and supporting HSPA+ 3G connectivity.

At the launch, Vishal Sehgal, Co-founder & Director, Lava International announced that the Xolo X900 will be available in the Indian market from April 23 at Rs 22,000 and the lower-priced Xolo phones would be launched in the future. He assured that the Xolo owners will get premium support, including onsite warranty, which is first for phones in India. Considering that the smart phone market in India is around 20 million, Lava announced its long-term partnership with Croma, a national Indian chain of mega stores, which will sell the X900 in Indian-market. Lava has 1,000 distributors in India and their phones can be purchased in about 50,000 locations around the country.

Intel South Asia Managing Director (Sales and Marketing Group), Debjani Ghosh, during the launch said, “We are working on an integrated marketing campaign which will be out in May.” Traditionally, Intel has held a massive advantage in manufacturing of silicon chip and has used it to the good effect in traditional computer market. But, with Lava’s X900, Intel is entering an entirely new field. The launch of X900 on Lava will instantly give Intel a big smart phone retail presence.

The Xolo X900, pricing approximately $ 423 will be sold in the international market shortly. UK and France are expected to get their own Intel Medfield smart phone in the form of the Orange Santa Clara which is expected to see a summer release.
